Food Facts: Honey

Did you know that honey is considered the only food that never goes bad?  Archaeologists have discovered honey in ancient Egyptian tombs, and have reported it edible!

Honey, produced by honeybees from the nectar of flowers, has many beneficial qualities.  Throughout history, it has been used topically as an antiseptic and anti-inflammatory, keeping wounds clean and free from infection.  Because of its antibacterial qualities, it can also be used to soothe a cough or sore throat.  At the Well of Life Center, we highly recommend it for the boost it gives the immune system.  Honey contains natural antioxidants, and can help improve the terrain of the digestive system, protecting the body against a host of immune-related distress and disease.

A great way to incorporate honey into your diet is through a daily cup of this tasty Lemon Apple Cider Vinegar tea:

1 mug of steaming water
1 tablespoon Bragg's apple cider vinegar
1 tablespoon honey
Splash of lemon juice (fresh squeezed is best)

Mix all of the above together, and enjoy!  Do this every night, and your body, especially your digestive system, will thank you!
